an italian winter wonderland
THE SKI AREA
Chalet Doss is located a short 7 minute drive from Madonna di Campiglio. Often referred to as the ‘pearl of the Dolomites’, the breath-taking ski area of Madonna di Campiglio stretches across 156km of perfectly-maintained slopes with 61 modern lifts, and is home to the World Cup Super G tour that takes place every year. In recent years the resort has also added in a toboggan run where guests can take their sledges and experience a thrilling ride through a carved trail. Renowned around the world for its reserved yet relaxed chic, think endless runs and laid-back meals and drinks on the pistes, with the beautiful town closeby offering a really diverse range of shopping experiences and a little winter market. Michelin-starred restaurants, bars and nightclubs can all be found too. This is skiing, but with Italian style!
For those who prefer hiking to skiing, multiple hiking trails pass by the chalet and a rifugio offering drinks and food can be reached in half an hour’s easy walking along the river.
A short drive down the valley the ski resort of Pinzolo offers yet more slopes to explore alongside shops, restaurants, ice rinks and even covered tennis courts. In 2022 a world class spa has opened here as well, allowing guests to unwind, swim and steam away the snow days in peace.
‘Dolomite perfection’
THE SUMMER
For many years the Dolomite summers have been a bit of secret until now! A world away from the intense skiing of the winter season, in summer time the Dolomites transform into a lush green landscape of meadows, flowers, forests and bubbling alpine streams. Deer, badgers and even the odd bear can also be spotted around the chalet. It is a magical place.
For the more adventurous, the mountains around the chalet hold several iconic Via Ferrati routes, where guests can be guided scaling across precipitous peaks locked onto wires to prevent them falling. Paragliding is also possible in the valley below. And for MTB enthusiasts, the mountain opposite the chalet offers a variety of mountain bike trails for all abilities, which connect to the foot of the chalet itself. There are also fishing guides available for those who want to try for trout and grayling in the river just beneath the chalet and the mountain lakes all around. And a newly opened spa seven minutes away offers world class luxurious indulgences to those who seek it.
The hiking here is world class and the chalet sits at the intersection of several trails that can take you all the way to the peaks of mountains if your fit enough. Family days are spent enjoying walking to rifugios, blueberry picking or picnicking in the meadows to sound of the bells of mountain cows and marmots calling to each other. Families can also take advantage of white water rafting and adventure parks within an hour’s drive of the chalet.
